Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our team. This position requires proficiency in various pharmacy tasks, including medication preparation, inventory management, controlled substance handling, and ensuring that all medication-related activities comply with hospital policies and state regulations. You will work closely with pharmacists to support patient care and ensure the smooth operation of the pharmacy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Medication Preparation: Select, package, and label medications for inspection and approval by the pharmacist. Ensure accuracy in medication doses and labeling.
  • Pharmacy Support: Assist with delivering and picking up medications from patient care areas and stock rooms. Respond to requests from pharmacy satellites and patient care locations.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain proper inventory levels of medications and supplies, monitor expiration dates, and perform regular stock checks. Ensure correct storage and compliance with regulations.
  • Controlled Substance Management: Verify and maintain controlled substance inventories, process orders, and document all required information according to policy. Return expired or damaged controlled substances to designated staff.
  • Prescription Processing: In a retail pharmacy setting, process prescriptions by entering patient and insurance information, filling prescriptions, and ensuring the accuracy of medications and labels.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service, ensuring patient satisfaction and responding to queries regarding medications, prescriptions, and services.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, including hazardous material handling, and ensure compliance with hospital regulations for medication storage and distribution.
  • Training and Development: Participate in in-service training, educational programs, and staff meetings to enhance professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Licensure:
    • Maryland Board of Pharmacy registration required.
    • Completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician Training Program preferred.
  • Certification:
    • National Pharmacy Technician Board Certification within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience in a pharmacy setting preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Proficiency in mathematical operations for inventory and record keeping.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to work with healthcare teams and patients.
    • Ability to follow instructions and use pharmacy software.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
    • Knowledge of insurance prescription cards, retail prescription software, and technology.

Additional Information

  • Compensation: $18.50 - $23.00 per hour
  • Sign-on Bonus: Up to $1,200 (depending on eligibility)
  • Shift Differentials: Eligible for applicable shift differentials
