Position Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for implementing and managing an effective occupational health program at the facility level.
The role supports productivity and reduces health-related costs by managing employee health, safety, and wellness programs.
Core areas include immediate medical care, health surveillance, regulatory compliance, job placement, case management, and health promotion.


Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Program Implementation

  • Establish and maintain an occupational health program addressing employee health risks.

  • Provide immediate care for employee and visitor injuries or illnesses.

  • Lead the medical emergency response team and participate in root cause analysis of incidents.

Employee Health Management

  • Implement job placement and health surveillance programs, including:

    • Hearing conservation and audiometry

    • Respiratory surveillance

    • Exposure management (chemical, reproductive, ergonomic, etc.)

  • Maintain confidential occupational health records and manage all OSHA and Workers’ Compensation reporting.

Case Management & Return to Work

  • Manage employee cases in collaboration with HR, department managers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.

  • Ensure timely and safe return-to-work outcomes.

Health Promotion & Wellness

  • Facilitate risk-based health promotion programs for employees and their families.

  • Provide health-related counseling and guidance to employees.

Regulatory & Risk Management

  • Partner with EHS professionals to identify and mitigate workplace health risks.

  • Participate in periodic evaluations and continuous improvement of the OH program.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and corporate standards.

  • Manage on-site drug-testing program and report outcomes.

Training & Ergonomics

  • Provide CPR/first-aid training and support ergonomics assessments.

  • Collaborate with EHS to reduce musculoskeletal risks through ergonomic improvements.

Professional Development

  • Maintain nursing licensure and relevant certifications (e.g., hearing testing, pulmonary function).

  • Stay updated on occupational health best practices.


Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current license to practice (required).

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Occupational Health Certification (OHN) preferred.

  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical nursing setting.

  • Experience in occupational health, EHS, or industrial settings preferred.

Skills

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Proficiency in computer applications and electronic documentation.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Physically capable of responding to emergencies.


Compensation

  • Estimated Base Salary: $68,000 – $93,000 annually

  • Additional: Eligible for discretionary bonuses

  • Final pay is determined based on location, experience, and skills.
