Position Summary

The Modeling & Simulation Senior Statistician plays a vital role within Amgen’s Clinical Development team.
This position works closely with the Design and Simulation Initiative (DSI) and the Principal Statistician to design, develop, and execute simulation plans that guide clinical trial design and decision-making.
The role involves hands-on work with data, modeling tools, and simulation methodologies to optimize study designs and promote statistical innovation.


Key Responsibilities

Simulation & Modeling

  • Collaborate with the DSI and Principal Statistician to develop and finalize simulation plans with detailed specifications.

  • Execute simulation plans and present results using clear, presentation-ready visualizations.

  • Summarize and interpret simulation results to support optimal study design decisions.

  • Participate in End-to-End Global Planning (EGP) and study design discussions to ensure clear understanding of clinical trial options.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Present simulation findings and recommendations to cross-functional product and study teams.

  • Work closely with study teams, statisticians, and data scientists to align design strategies.

Innovation & Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the development of internal simulation and modeling tools for broader use within Amgen’s Design Center.

  • Support and promote innovative trial designs, including adaptive and Bayesian methodologies.

  • Participate in internal training sessions to enhance awareness of modern simulation practices.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree
    OR

  • Master’s degree and 3 years of statistical experience in the pharmaceutical industry or medical research
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of statistical experience
    OR

  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of statistical experience
    OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of statistical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics with 1+ year of post-graduate statistical experience in pharma or medical research.

  • Strong computing, modeling, and simulation skills using R, SAS, WinBUGS, FACTS, or equivalent tools.

  • Experience designing, analyzing, and reporting clinical trials in Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Public Health, Government, or Academic settings.

  • Proficiency in Bayesian statistics and advanced simulation and modeling techniques.

  • Ability to rapidly learn and apply adaptive design methodologies.

  • Effective communicator with strong written and verbal presentation skills.

  • Excellent collaboration skills with both statistical and cross-functional teams.
