Position Summary

Astellas is seeking a highly skilled Medical Science Liaison (MSL) / Senior MSL – Oncology to join our Medical Affairs team in the Southeast region (NC, SC, TN). This role is field-based and requires frequent travel to engage with Key External Experts (KEEs), healthcare professionals, and stakeholders.

The MSL will act as a trusted scientific advisor, providing medical insights, delivering educational programs, and supporting the evidence generation strategy across the product life cycle. This role also plays a critical part in identifying emerging stakeholders and capturing insights to inform Astellas’ medical and commercial strategies.


Key Responsibilities

Field Medical Leadership

  • Execute tactical field plans to engage the medical/scientific community in alignment with Astellas’ business and medical strategy

  • Mentor, coach, and serve as a role model for peer MSLs

  • Provide leadership in regional scientific initiatives and cross-functional collaboration

Scientific Exchange & Expertise

  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific exchange on disease states, therapy trends, and product knowledge to ensure safe and effective use

  • Maintain and communicate up-to-date clinical and therapeutic knowledge to internal and external stakeholders

  • Actively engage with KEEs, healthcare providers, nurses, and pharmacists to identify medical insights and data gaps

  • Support medical education programs and scientific communication initiatives

  • Stay current with local healthcare environment, regulatory dynamics, and therapeutic trends

Medical Insight & Evidence Generation

  • Capture and report field-derived medical insights to inform clinical strategy

  • Support evidence generation studies and data dissemination to address unmet medical needs

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Research & Development, Regulatory, and Commercial Affairs


Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational Requirement: Doctorate in Health-Related Sciences (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO)

  • Experience:

    • 3–5 years in scientific/medical roles within a research-based pharmaceutical environment

    • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in Medical Affairs or MSL roles

  • Core Competencies:

    • Excellence in scientific exchange and peer-to-peer communication

    • Strong medical insight generation and data interpretation skills

    • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders

    • Learning agility, strategic thinking, and business fluency in English


Working Environment & Travel

  • Field-based role covering North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee

  • Frequent travel is required to meet medical affairs objectives
