Job Purpose
Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) are field-based medical professionals with deep expertise in specific disease areas, Lilly and competitor compounds, and current therapeutic trends. They provide critical scientific insights through direct engagement with Scientific Experts (SEs), helping to inform Lilly’s research and commercialization strategies. MSLs play a key role in shaping the future of healthcare by facilitating scientific exchanges and addressing complex clinical and scientific questions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain Scientific Knowledge

    • Continuously learn and maintain expertise in the therapeutic area to effectively address scientific questions from healthcare professionals.
    • Establish oneself as a trusted, reliable source of accurate, up-to-date medical information.
  2. Customer Engagement

    • Engage in meaningful, two-way dialogues with scientific experts to address their medical and scientific information needs.
    • Serve as the primary interface between Lilly’s medical team and scientific experts, providing a best-in-class customer experience.
    • Identify and foster opportunities for collaborative research and external partnerships.
  3. Strategic Vision and Leadership

    • Synthesize complex data and communicate critical clinical insights to internal teams, contributing to medical strategy and planning.
    • Utilize problem-solving skills to address challenges and develop solutions, ensuring the use of appropriate internal resources.
    • Make independent, principle-based decisions and escalate issues when necessary.
  4. Territory Ownership and Planning

    • Demonstrate effective strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization within assigned territory.
    • Own the execution and evaluation of a strategic territory plan and take responsibility for achieving key results.
    • Adhere to compliance and regulatory requirements, demonstrating good judgment in all activities.
  5. Professional Development

    • Participate in ongoing training to enhance knowledge and skills.
    • Complete performance management objectives in alignment with company processes.
    • Stay up-to-date with company policies and procedures to ensure proper compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Core:

    • PharmD, BPharm, MD, or PhD in a medically related field, OR a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in health sciences (e.g., BSN, RPh, PA, NP) with at least 1 year of clinical, research, or industry (medical/scientific role) experience, preferably in diabetes.
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the pharmaceutical or medical education field.
    • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Proven experience engaging with medical professionals.
  • Desirable:

    • Experience in diabetes or chronic weight management.
    • Previous experience as a Medical Science Liaison.
    • Familiarity with academic communities, medical research, and the medical education process.

  • Internal:
    • Marketing Team, Clinical Research Physicians, Regional/Global Medical Teams, Medical Affairs Professionals, Clinical Operations.
  • External:
    • Scientific Experts, Physicians, Pharmacists, and other relevant stakeholders.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time (domestic and potentially international travel).
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
