Position Overview

We are seeking a Medical Editor to join our team and contribute to the editorial quality of healthcare communication materials. The Medical Editor will be responsible for editing and proofreading promotional marketing materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with client and project requirements. This role will work closely with internal teams to ensure that all content meets high standards of quality and is aligned with client expectations and industry guidelines.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Editing & Proofreading: Fact-check, substantively edit, and proofread promotional marketing materials, including print and digital selling tools, emails, advertisements, videos, and websites.
  • Compliance & Review: Annotate and cross-reference materials for submission to client medical/legal/regulatory review and incorporate feedback from these reviews.
  • Layout & Digital Content Checks: Ensure that all layouts and digital files are accurate and complete, following manuscript drafts and client-approved files.
  • Reference Management: Verify accuracy and completeness of reference lists, ensuring proper citation and format.
  • Client & AMA Style Expertise: Serve as a subject-matter expert for client and AMA style guidelines, grammar, and usage. Create and maintain project-specific style guides for consistency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Medical Services and Creative Services teams to ensure the accuracy of content and proper implementation of editorial feedback.
  • Copyright Management: Coordinate the need for copyright permissions and assist with acquiring rights to reproduce figures and tables.
  • Problem Solving & Coordination: Participate in editorial problem-solving, and attend status meetings to track editorial projects and progress.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (science or English degrees preferred).
  • Experience: 3-5 years of pharmaceutical/medical editing experience.
  • Skills:
    • Strong command of grammar, usage, and medical writing style guidelines (e.g., AMA Manual of Style).
    • Familiarity with scientific concepts and the ability to understand complex scientific applications.
    • Expertise in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Proficiency with content management systems and electronic document review systems.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience editing for a medical communications agency or pharmaceutical company marketing department.
    • Familiarity with agency workflows and promotional activity regulations.
