Position Summary
The Medical Coder (MedCo) is responsible for performing day-to-day operational activities related to the planning, management, and execution of medical coding activities in clinical studies. This includes coding of adverse events, medical conditions, and drug-related information. The role ensures that coding activities are performed within agreed timelines and that appropriate dictionaries and review processes are followed throughout the study lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Support departmental coordination through maintaining project management tools
Prepare study coding reports and training materials related to medical coding activities
Perform MedDRA coding as requested by the data management team
Raise queries in eCRF or other platforms related to coding activities when required
Collaborate with study data managers, clinical scientists, programming teams, and the pharmacovigilance department
Review comments from clinical science teams or sponsors on coded terms and finalize coding activities
Track performance metrics and inform study teams about backlog or potential coding challenges
Conduct on-the-job training for new hires
Ensure adherence to internal tools and processes
Participate in periodic meetings within Data Management and Statistics departments to promote best practices
Ensure compliance with company integrated management systems and applicable national and international regulations
Professional Experience Requirements
2–4 years of experience in medical coding or related operational activities in the pharmaceutical industry
Strong knowledge of medical coding terminology and processes
Experience working with electronic data capture tools such as Medidata Rave and Inform
Working knowledge of programming languages or data management software
Experience with data management activities including database development, conduct, and close-out activities
