Position Overview

As Manager, R&D (Formulation), you will play a critical role in Baxter’s Pharmaceuticals New Product Development team. You will lead cutting-edge research, oversee technical strategy, and guide a cross-functional team in developing innovative pharmaceutical products that improve patient outcomes. This role blends technical leadership, project management, and team mentorship.


Key Responsibilities

Innovation & Development

  • Design and develop novel pharmaceutical formulations, especially with peptides and proteins.

  • Leverage cross-disciplinary expertise to convert innovative concepts into tangible product solutions.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the technical leader for multiple new product development (NPD) programs within Pharma R&D.

  • Guide strategic alignment with Baxter’s vision for formulation development.

Project & Data Management

  • Plan, manage, and execute multidisciplinary research projects independently.

  • Use data to drive decision-making; apply advanced problem-solving to overcome project challenges.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, QSR, and regulatory standards.

  • Facilitate efficient product registration processes across various geographies.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor junior scientists, ensuring development and project alignment.

  • Promote a culture of creativity, excellence, and cross-functional collaboration.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 8+ years of experience,

  • OR Master’s degree with 5+ years,

  • OR PhD with 2+ years in a relevant field.

Experience:

  • Proven GMP/QSR lab experience.

  • Strong formulation and/or analytical experience (preferably with peptides or proteins).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams.

  • Effective communicator and team player.

  • Strong mentorship and project leadership capabilities.


Workplace & Flexibility

  • Location: Round Lake, IL (some on-site presence required per Baxter’s flexible workplace policy).

  • Flexibility based on business needs, aligned with local laws and company policy.


Compensation

  • Base Salary Range: $120,000 – $165,000 annually

  • Incentive Bonus: Eligible for annual performance-based bonus

  • Actual compensation may vary based on:

    • Experience and qualifications

    • Role complexity and business unit

    • Geographic location
