Job Purpose

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical expert with deep scientific knowledge of neuroscience, therapeutic disease states, pipeline/marketed compounds, and scientific trends. The MSL builds scientific exchange with medical experts, gathers strategic insights, and supports Lilly’s research and medical objectives.


Key Responsibilities

1. Maintain & Communicate Deep Scientific Knowledge

  • Continuously learn and maintain advanced expertise in neuroscience therapeutic areas.

  • Provide accurate, unbiased, up-to-date scientific and medical information.

  • Respond to complex scientific queries from healthcare professionals.

  • Be recognized as a trusted, peer-credible scientific resource.


2. Customer Engagement & Scientific Support

  • Spend majority of time in field-based, customer-facing interactions.

  • Conduct two-way scientific dialogues with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and scientific experts.

  • Understand customer needs using emotional intelligence and insight-driven engagement.

  • Provide advanced disease state and product information.

  • Connect scientific experts with appropriate Lilly resources or teams.

  • Identify opportunities for collaborative research or external partnerships.


3. Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Synthesize complex clinical data and communicate clinical insights to internal teams.

  • Use creative problem-solving to develop solutions to scientific or strategic challenges.

  • Apply principle-based decision-making to determine when to act independently or escalate.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally and contribute to medical planning and strategic initiatives.


4. Territory Ownership

  • Based in Mumbai / Bengaluru / Chennai / Hyderabad.

  • Perform strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization for efficient territory management.

  • Develop and execute a strategic territory plan aligned with core objectives.

  • Maintain compliance with all internal policies, procedures, and external regulations.

  • Demonstrate accountability for territory performance and outcomes.


Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Health Sciences: MBBS / MD / PhD preferred.

  • Strong preference for medical degree and/or previous neuroscience experience.

  • Prior experience as an MSL or in a field-based scientific role.

  • Experience building relationships with Scientific Experts and Key Opinion Leaders.

  • Ability to address complex scientific and medical information needs.

  • Familiarity with healthcare systems, academic institutions, medical research, and medical education.

  • Ability to travel up to 80% across southern and western India.

  • Willingness to work occasional weekends.

  • High intellectual curiosity and passion for neuroscience/medicine.

  • Strong learning agility to interpret and communicate extensive scientific data.
