Job Title: Licensed Pharmacist


Position Summary

The Licensed Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medications within the hospital. This includes interpreting physician orders, accurately dispensing pharmaceuticals, monitoring patient therapy, and providing timely drug information to healthcare providers. The role involves reviewing patient profiles, making recommendations to prescribers to ensure the appropriateness of therapy, and preventing drug interactions and adverse reactions. The pharmacist also manages inventories of approved medications for routine, emergency, and floor stock situations.


Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) required.
  • Continuous education to maintain licensure is required.

Certification/License

  • Licensure by the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy is required.
  • Continuous education to maintain licensure and any certifications, if applicable, is required.

Skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced mathematical skills are required.
  • Keyboarding skills are preferred (ability to develop competence using hospital pharmacy software).
  • Word processing skills are preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with medical staff, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Experience

  • At least one year of experience as a licensed pharmacist is preferred.

Nature of Supervision

  • Reports to: Director, Pharmacy

Environment

  • Bloodborne Pathogen Risk: B (Occasional exposure to potentially infectious materials, with little expected risk but may be exposed unexpectedly).
  • Close quarters in a busy environment, possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, and allergenic drug products.
  • Extended exposure to video display terminals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a rapid pace under demanding workloads and stressful situations.
  • Sufficient hearing to use telephones and pagers.
  • Vision sufficient to read physician orders, requisitions, and reports.
  • Hand-eye coordination sufficient for aseptic technique.
