Job Overview

Merck KGaA is seeking an experienced Lead Expert – Scientific Writer to join its Global Scientific Communications Content Hub in Bengaluru. This strategic role focuses on developing high-quality medical communications, medical education materials, and scientific content to support global healthcare initiatives.

The position offers an opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary research and development teams, global medical units, and cross-functional stakeholders across therapeutic areas including Oncology, Neurology and Immunology, Fertility, and Cardio-metabolic and Endocrinology. The successful candidate will lead scientific writing projects, ensure content quality and accuracy, and contribute to global medical communication strategies.


Key Responsibilities

Develop and deliver high-quality scientific and medical content across multiple formats, including publications, medical education materials, congress presentations, and medical communication deliverables.

Lead the development of medium to high complexity scientific content and provide quality review of materials prepared by junior writers to ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, and strategic alignment.

Manage end-to-end scientific writing projects, including planning, execution, review, and delivery within defined timelines.

Lead concept development discussions with authors, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Global Scientific Communications Content Hub.

Serve as a subject matter expert and lead representative for assigned functional areas or therapeutic domains.

Provide mentorship and training to junior scientific writers to strengthen content quality and technical capabilities.

Maintain strong working relationships with internal medical units and global stakeholders.

Ensure efficient workload management, project prioritization, and clear project status reporting.

Ensure all deliverables comply with regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards.


Education Requirements

Advanced university degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, or a related scientific discipline.

Doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification preferred.


Experience Required

Minimum 9 years of professional experience in medical communications, medical affairs, clinical research, or scientific writing within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare organization or agency.

Proven experience leading scientific writing projects and managing multiple content types simultaneously.

Therapeutic expertise in one or more areas such as Oncology, Neurology and Immunology, Fertility, Cardio-metabolic disorders, or Endocrinology.

Demonstrated experience working in international and cross-functional environments.

Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry trends, medical communication practices, and healthcare regulations.

Experience in stakeholder engagement and project leadership within global teams.
