Job Description

ICON plc is seeking a Lead Clinical Data Science Programmer to design and develop advanced clinical data solutions supporting clinical trials and research analytics. In this role, you will handle complex clinical datasets, develop data pipelines, and build analytics tools that enable data-driven decision-making in clinical development.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient data handling, analysis, and reporting across multiple clinical studies while maintaining regulatory compliance and data integrity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain clinical data analytics solutions, including cross-page visualizations and information models.

  • Write and maintain R and Python scripts for clinical data programming and analysis.

  • Review database specifications and program CDMS/EDC systems during study setup.

  • Develop data ingestion pipelines, CDMS solutions, risk management outputs, and custom reports.

  • Design and build electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) screens according to protocol specifications.

  • Perform data extraction and data transfer programming for clinical datasets.

  • Oversee Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes for assigned programming deliverables.

  • Ensure high-quality deliverables through formal quality control (QC) and validation processes.

  • Identify project risks and escalate issues impacting timelines, scope, or budget.

  • Provide input for resource planning and revenue forecasting activities.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in clinical data science programming or clinical data analytics.

  • Strong experience with Clinical Data Management Systems (CDMS) and Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems.

  • Experience with data ingestion, validation, analytics, and visualization tools.

  • Proficiency in R and Python programming.

  • Understanding of clinical trial processes and regulatory environments.


Preferred Skills

  • Strong knowledge of data validation, data extraction, and risk-based analytics methodologies.

  • Experience building data pipelines and analytics dashboards.

  • Familiarity with clinical data standards and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
