Team Leader - Medical Coding

Location: Bangalore, India – South 3rd Floor
Work Type: Onsite, Full-Time
Experience Required: 6+ years in medical coding, with minimum 1 year leading a team of coders
Certifications Required: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)

Job Overview
Huron is seeking a skilled Team Leader - Medical Coding to manage the day-to-day operations and quality performance of a team of coders. The ideal candidate will ensure coding accuracy, meet client production goals, and foster continuous improvement in HCC risk adjustment coding processes. This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and deep expertise in medical coding standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor coding staff performance using key metrics, including daily coding volume, assignments completed, client deadlines, and coding accuracy, maintaining a 95% quality rate.

  • Review production and quality reports to track progress and provide constructive feedback to team members.

  • Escalate production or QA issues to the Manager and coordinate with training teams to address performance gaps.

  • Conduct training, coaching, and mentorship to improve team productivity, quality, and professionalism.

  • Hold monthly team meetings and annual performance reviews for staff.

  • Manage attendance records, timesheets, and team scheduling.

  • Perform special projects such as full coding audits or process improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain domain expertise in coding standards, HCC risk adjustment, and compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations.

  • Analyze data to identify trends, workflow inefficiencies, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Focus on enhancing team knowledge and skills through participation in coding meetings, workshops, and educational conferences.

  • Uphold professional and ethical standards in all coding and leadership activities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years of industry experience, including 1 year leading a team of coders.

  • Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Zoology, or Microbiology.

  • Certified Coding Professional (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).

  • Strong managerial, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of hospital/technical and professional service reimbursement systems.

  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and payer-specific coding and billing regulations.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to leverage data for performance improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members of varying expertise.
