Position Overview: Lead Expert – Scientific Writer
The Lead Expert – Scientific Writer will independently and collaboratively develop high-quality scientific and medical content across diverse project types. This role requires strong expertise in scientific communication, content strategy, stakeholder management, and leadership of complex writing assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Content Development
Create and lead development of medical communication materials including publications, congress content, and medical education deliverables.
Develop content across varied project types, audiences, and therapeutic areas.
Review and quality-check content produced by junior writers for scientific accuracy, tone, and alignment with strategic objectives.
Leadership & Mentorship
Guide concept development meetings with authors, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.
Lead content development for medium to high-complexity projects.
Mentor junior scientific writers and develop training programs to strengthen team capability.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Serve as the key representative for assigned therapeutic assets or functional areas.
Maintain strong working relationships with global teams and medical units.
Provide clear status updates, manage internal deadlines, and ensure project alignment with scientific communication standards.
Quality, Efficiency & Process Excellence
Ensure all content meets internal quality benchmarks and regulatory expectations.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Global Scientific Communications Content Hub.
Prioritize workload effectively to meet timelines across concurrent projects.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
Advanced degree in science or medicine (e.g., MSc, PhD, MD, PharmD or equivalent).
Experience
Minimum 9+ years of professional experience in medical communications, medical affairs, or clinical research, ideally within international Pharma, Biotech, or scientific communication agencies.
Proven expertise in developing and leading scientific writing projects across multiple therapeutic areas.
Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry trends and medical communication expectations.
Skills & Competencies
Demonstrated capability in stakeholder management in global and cross-functional environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong analytical mindset with ability to understand complex scientific concepts.
Experience overseeing medium to high-complexity content projects and directing junior team members.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
