Junior Project Financial Analyst

The Junior Project Financial Analyst partners with project managers and the financial team to provide financial leadership and transparency, fostering a performance-based culture. This role may also oversee the activities of assigned Project/Billing Analysts depending on the project's size and complexity.

Main Responsibilities

  • Financial Performance Control: Oversee project financial performance, maintain budgets and forecasts in the ERP system, perform financial analysis, and provide timely financial reports to the project team.

  • Revenue Management: Manage revenue recognition, support customer change management in financial terms, and validate profitability control as defined by the Cognitive Project Sponsor.

  • Invoice Management: Review and approve project invoice requests based on customer purchase orders.

  • Forecasting: Schedule and lead the production of integrated project forecasts, including the Estimate at Completion (EAC) report. Evaluate forecast accuracy by assessing actual costs, project progress, and potential risks. Present the EAC to Cognitive Management, covering revenues, costs, project margins, invoicing, payments, cash flow, risks, opportunities, and contingencies.

  • Customer Reporting: Prepare and present project forecasts and spend reports to the customer, detailing total revenues, invoicing, payments, risks, opportunities, and contingencies.

  • Performance Reporting: Ensure high integrity and transparency in performance reporting and data management.

  • Pricing and Budgeting: Prepare project pricing calculations and documentation, establish and maintain project budgets, and overall cost control.

  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Develop and maintain the project WBS, including revenue and billing formulas.

  • Contract Management: Monitor contract funding and modifications, review and approve all major project expenditures, and drive project profitability and performance metrics.

  • Billing Management: Ensure timely and accurate project billings (Cost Plus, T&M, and FFP), track invoices, reconcile accounts, and minimize unbilled balances.

  • Cash Flow Optimization: Monitor and work to maximize project cash flow.

  • Risk Management: Prepare risk and opportunity assessments and develop plans to mitigate risks.

  • Ad Hoc Reporting: Prepare detailed monthly project rolling forecasts and participate in monthly project review meetings.

  • Audit Support: Assist with contract close-out, incurred cost submissions, and support internal and external audits.

  • Compliance: Ensure project accounting complies with Cognitive and Government accounting standards and adhere to company policies and procedures.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business preferred.

  • 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in developing project pricing models and performing scenario analysis.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize effectively.

  • Ability to work well in teams and independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with all levels of management.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills, capable of designing complex models.

  • Good understanding of Government contracts, FAR, and CAS.

  • Working knowledge of project accounting and GAAP principles.
