Role Summary

Optum is looking for a Junior Medical Coder to review and analyze patient medical records for accurate code assignment and ensure compliance with coding guidelines. The role will involve learning and applying medical coding software while staying updated on industry changes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze patient medical records for accurate code assignment.

  • Ensure adherence to coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.

  • Learn to use medical coding software.

  • Apply understanding of anatomy and physiology to interpret clinical documentation and identify applicable medical codes.

  • Stay updated on industry changes and attend relevant training sessions.

  • Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information.

  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and directives.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Medical Science, Life Science, Bioscience, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Medicine, or Allied Health.

  • Good knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology.

  • Well-versed with ICD-10 coding guidelines and their implementation.

  • Proficient in reviewing medical records and ensuring accuracy and completeness.


Preferred Qualifications

  • AAPC/AHIMA Certification.

  • Risk Adjustment coding experience.
