Job Description / Capsule:
Field-based scientific expert in assigned therapeutic area responsible for the execution of the Medical Affairs Plan(s) for pre-launch and/or newly launched products/indications. Shapes clinical practice through scientific engagements, partnerships, and collaborations with traditional (e.g., Specialist KEEs for MSLs, Primary Care Physicians for CSLs) and non-traditional (e.g., policy makers, PAGs, government) experts, as well as internal stakeholders, to drive enhanced patient outcomes and the safe, effective use of AstraZeneca medicines.

Key Responsibilities:

Scientific Expertise:

  • Maintain clinical/scientific expertise in disease state management, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.

  • Contribute to the development and lead/manage the therapeutic area Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP).

  • Act as a subject matter expert/resource for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support internal training and mentoring in therapeutic area topics.

Scientific Exchange:

  • Engage in peer-to-peer dialogue with key customers and deliver appropriate clinical/scientific content through the correct channel mix.

  • Respond to unsolicited inquiries with balanced clinical/scientific information.

  • Provide scientific support and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Identify and build relationships with key customers and thought leaders for ongoing scientific dialogue.

  • Organize and facilitate scientific events such as MSL events, symposiums, advisory boards, standalone non-promotional events, and Meet the Professor sessions.

  • Deliver informative lectures at scientific events aligned with field medical strategies.

Customer Insight:

  • Identify, gather, analyze, synthesize, and report knowledge from the external scientific/medical environments to internal stakeholders.

  • Provide actionable insights related to medical/product strategies or clinical development.

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify gaps in the patient experience journey.

Strategic Relationship:

  • Develop peer-level relationships with medical/scientific experts and internal teams.

  • Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators aligned with Medical Plans.

  • Support data generation activities and participate in investigator-sponsored study reviews.

  • Expand My MA contacts to include non-traditional KEEs where appropriate.

  • Establish partnerships with stakeholders to deliver strategic, scalable, and sustainable patient healthcare access solutions.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Leverage digital innovation/technology to enable scientific exchange and patient-centric solutions.

  • Adhere to pharmacovigilance and GxP principles, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and adverse event reporting.

  • Exhibit a robust understanding of the Ethical Interactions Policy and local laws and regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with AstraZeneca Global Field Medical Standards and external regulations, including clinical trials, promotional activities, and pharmacovigilance.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Scientific and/or Master’s degree in a scientific discipline.

  • Excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to communicate internally and externally across different channels.

  • Excellent project management and presentation skills.

  • High-level analytical and conceptual thinking.

Desirable:

  • Doctoral degree in a scientific discipline (M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D.).

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory environment, clinical/preclinical research, and therapeutic area expertise.

  • Familiarity with basic research, drug discovery, development, and KEE interactions.
