Overview:

Linwood Equine Ranch, located near Carberry, Manitoba, is seeking a dedicated and energetic individual to join our team as a Farm Assistant. This role involves hands-on care for horses, with a focus on those involved in the collection of pregnant mares' urine (PMU) for the production of Premarin, a vital menopausal hormone therapy used worldwide.

About the Role:

In this position, you will contribute to the health and well-being of our horses, including mares, stallions, and foals, as well as support the ongoing agricultural and pharmaceutical efforts at the ranch. Working with a skilled team, you'll play a key part in ensuring that our horses are cared for and that operations run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside experienced animal care staff and veterinary professionals.
  • Provide daily care for a large herd of breeding horses, including feeding, cleaning, and ensuring their overall well-being.
  • Assist with foaling, farrier care, halter training foals, and administering medical treatments.
  • Safely operate farm equipment (e.g., tractors, skid steer) for tasks such as cleaning barns, feeding, and snow removal.
  • Maintain the ranch's facilities, grounds, and equipment, including fence repairs and general upkeep.
  • Participate in research data collection and observation.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for the animals and facility.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (minimum required).
  • Experience working in an agricultural setting, particularly with horses or livestock.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery (e.g., skid steer, tractors).
  • Willingness to perform physical labor, including heavy lifting and working outdoors.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both spoken and written).
  • A technical diploma or degree in horsemanship or agriculture is a plus.
  • Class 3 Manitoba Driver’s License (preferred).
