Job Overview

Syngene is seeking a qualified Facility Veterinarian to support its Safety Assessment vivarium operations in Bangalore. The role involves veterinary oversight, laboratory animal health monitoring, regulatory compliance, and supervision of animal care staff within a GLP-compliant preclinical research environment.

The selected candidate will play a critical role in ensuring ethical animal care, maintaining AAALAC standards, and supporting regulatory frameworks such as CPCSEA and GLP.

Experience Required

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in laboratory animal science, vivarium management, or preclinical research environments

  • Experience in CPCSEA, GLP, or AAALAC-accredited facilities preferred

  • Exposure to animal health monitoring programs, quarantine procedures, and regulatory inspections is advantageous

Educational Qualification

  • MVSc (Master of Veterinary Science) – Mandatory

Core Purpose of the Role

The Facility Veterinarian will support vivarium operations by providing veterinary medical care, overseeing animal welfare standards, and supervising animal care teams. The role also includes promoting ethical research practices aligned with the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) and maintaining compliance with international accreditation standards such as AAALAC.

The incumbent will assist in day-to-day operational and administrative management while ensuring all procedures are executed within defined timelines and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Veterinary Care & Health Monitoring

  • Conduct clinical assessment and health monitoring of laboratory animals

  • Implement and oversee health surveillance and outbreak management programs

  • Maintain SPF colonies and sentinel monitoring programs

  • Support the Attending Veterinarian (AV) in routine facility operations

Regulatory & Compliance Management

  • Ensure adherence to CPCSEA, GLP, Animal Welfare Regulations, and AAALAC standards

  • Maintain documentation in accordance with data integrity and quality system requirements

  • Participate in audits and regulatory inspections

Operational Oversight & Team Management

  • Supervise and train laboratory animal care technicians and support staff

  • Coordinate animal imports and quarantine procedures with internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure availability of adequate resources for uninterrupted facility operations

  • Monitor capacity utilization and drive operational efficiency in vivarium management

Research Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in research protocol design and review

  • Collaborate with discovery and regulatory teams

  • Support ethical research initiatives and continuous improvement programs
