Job Summary
Novartis is seeking an experienced Expert Scientific Writer to support its global medical communications and development initiatives. This role focuses on the creation of high-quality, complex scientific content including publications, core scientific materials, and foundational content elements aligned with the Scientific Communication Plan (SCP).
The position requires full ownership of deliverables from initial briefing through final publication or presentation, ensuring first-time-right, high-quality scientific output.
Key Responsibilities
Develop high-quality scientific and medical content aligned with defined scientific narratives and communication strategies
Demonstrate strong expertise in assigned therapeutic areas and product portfolios
Author original content for scientific publications including primary manuscripts, review articles, abstracts, posters, and slide decks
Prepare materials for satellite symposia, advisory boards, and internal or external scientific meetings, including agendas, presentations, speaker briefs, and meeting reports
Ensure content is scientifically accurate, evidence-based, properly referenced, and compliant with internal quality and review standards
Conduct internal scientific reviews to ensure alignment with key scientific messages and data integrity
Perform quality control and proofreading of scientific documents to meet stakeholder and regulatory expectations
Communicate complex medical and scientific concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
Mentor team members and support onboarding of new scientific writers
Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in medical communications or scientific writing
Minimum educational requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with relevant experience
B.Sc. or equivalent with 5 years of clinical research experience, or
M.Sc. / M.Pharm with 10+ years of clinical research experience
Strong experience in publication development within pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO environments
Required Skills and Competencies
In-depth understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines
Strong knowledge of clinical research processes and scientific publication standards
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present confidently to internal and external stakeholders
Proven ability to work effectively in matrixed, global, and multicultural environments
Strong stakeholder management, diplomacy, and customer-focused mindset
High attention to detail with strong scientific review and editorial capabilities
