Job Overview

We are hiring an experienced Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and strengthen world-class EHSS performance within a Research and Development laboratory environment. This role is based at the Genome Valley Research site in Hyderabad and focuses on chemistry safety, risk assessment, and safety engineering across small molecule, chemical, and biological laboratory operations.

The ideal candidate will be a strong change leader with deep technical expertise in laboratory safety, capable of influencing R&D leadership and driving continuous improvement through proactive EHS integration with business practices.


Key Responsibilities

EHS Leadership & Culture

  • Drive a strong EHS culture across R&D laboratories through leadership, influence, and proactive engagement

  • Act as a change agent to improve EHSS performance in a matrixed, research-driven environment

  • Deliver measurable EHS improvements through effective communication, stakeholder alignment, and process integration


Risk Assessment & Safety Engineering

  • Conduct laboratory-based process risk assessments and ensure appropriate engineering controls and employee training

  • Lead and support high-risk assessments using techniques such as HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

  • Establish and maintain safe work procedures for hazardous chemical and biological laboratory activities

  • Support engineering design reviews to ensure EHS compliance and risk mitigation


Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or support incident investigations and root cause analyses for complex or high-hazard events

  • Analyze safety metrics, incident trends, and performance data to develop action plans for continuous improvement

  • Ensure proactive identification of hazards and risk mitigation across all laboratory operations


Compliance & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Ensure compliance with applicable EHS regulations, standards, and internal policies

  • Participate in EHSS Global Network Teams and collaborate with Engineering, Facilities, Project Managers, and Business Continuity teams

  • Provide management with insights on potential environmental, health, and safety business impacts


Education & Experience

Required Experience (any one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant EHS or corporate services experience

  • Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Doctorate degree with 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Associate degree with 10+ years of experience

  • High school diploma with 12+ years of experience


Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Safety, or Industrial Hygiene

  • 6–12 years of hands-on EHS experience in chemical or biological laboratory environments

  • Strong understanding of small molecule, chemical, and biological research operations

  • Proven experience developing and implementing EHS risk management programs

  • Expertise in change control programs and safety governance

  • Familiarity with engineering and project documentation (P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications)

  • Experience managing risks related to high-potency compounds and explosive atmospheres

  • Strong leadership, communication, program development, and project management skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems
