Position Overview

This position involves providing emergency medical care to patients in a hospital emergency department. The role requires adaptability, quick decision-making, and the ability to manage diverse acute medical conditions in a fast-paced environment. Specific assignments and requirements may vary based on the facility, patient population, and emergency department volume.


Responsibilities:

  • Deliver prompt and comprehensive medical care for acute illnesses and emergencies.
  • Perform patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnose and stabilize patients with life-threatening conditions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for acute medical and surgical emergencies.
  • Perform emergency procedures, including suturing, wound care, and splinting.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, CT scans) to guide treatment.
  • Prescribe medications and manage acute pain effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate medical documentation.
  • Stay calm and professional under high-pressure situations.

  • Clinical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of emergency medicine practices, acute care, and stabilization.
  • Decision-Making: Strong clinical judgment in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.

  • Procedural Proficiency: Skilled in emergency procedures, resuscitation techniques, and resource management.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • Educational Background:

    • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certification:

    • Certified by one of the following:
      • American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM)
      • American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
      • American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)
      • American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Licensure:

    • Active, unrestricted medical license in Kansas.
