position-summary

We are seeking a Medical Records Coder II to join our team. This is a 100% remote position, but candidates must reside in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, or Texas. In this role, you will be responsible for coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions. You will review complex medical records, ensure proper reimbursement for hospital and professional charges, and assist with the training and education of staff.

key-responsibilities

  • Accurately code primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures in medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4.
  • Review complex coding cases, ensuring accuracy and optimal reimbursement.
  • Coordinate and review the work of designated employees to ensure quality and productivity.
  • Assist in developing and presenting continuing education programs for coding staff.
  • Provide coding education and consult with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and surgical techniques through continuing education.
  • Ensure compliance with medical record standards and regulations, including Joint Commission (JCAHO) and Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) standards.
  • Assist with special projects and other related duties as assigned.

minimum-qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma required.
  • Experience:
    • RHIA certification: No experience required.
    • RHIT certification: No experience required.
    • CCS certification: 1 year of coding experience required.
    • CPC or HCS-D certification: 2 years of coding experience required.

  • Must hold one of the following active certifications:
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
    • Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D)
