Job Description: Director, Field Medical - Hematology
Location: Virtual, U.S. (Massachusetts)

About the Role:
Join Takeda as a Director, Field Medical for Hematology. In this role, you will lead and manage a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to foster external scientific engagement with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Healthcare Providers (HCPs), and healthcare organizations, all aligned with Takeda’s strategic goals in the U.S. Medical division. You will provide leadership and guidance to the MSL team, ensuring efficient collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders. As part of the US Medical team, you will report to the VP of Field Medical.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and coach MSLs, ensuring alignment with Takeda’s strategic priorities. Develop team capabilities through hiring, training, and implementation of the medical plan.
  • Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations for the MSL team, including goal achievement, territory planning, insights reporting, and training.
  • Tactical Plan Development: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create and implement the annual team tactical plan, securing necessary approvals.
  • Scientific Engagement: Observe and monitor MSL external engagements (virtual and in-person) for compliance and documentation accuracy.
  • Team Culture & Development: Foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture focused on continuous learning. Ensure each MSL has an individual development plan and opportunities for growth.
  • Reporting & Insights: Create internal reports on MSL performance and KOL/HCP insights to inform decision-making and strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., Clinical Development, Global Medical, Commercial leadership) to align on team goals and execution plans.
  • Scientific Expertise: Maintain deep scientific expertise in hematology and Takeda’s products, providing the team with accurate, up-to-date information and training.
  • Compliance & Ethical Guidance: Ensure adherence to compliance, legal, and ethical standards across MSL activities.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage the team’s annual budget and ensure all expenditures align with policies and SOPs.
  • Scientific Discussions: Engage with KOLs, HCPs, and internal stakeholders, documenting these interactions per company guidelines.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctoral degree in life/health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD) is preferred. A Master’s degree (e.g., MSN, NP, or PA) is the minimum requirement.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs, with a track record of strategic leadership and team management.
    • Extensive background in an MSL or similar scientific role.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and collaborative abilities.
    • Deep understanding of compliance and regulatory guidelines impacting pharmaceutical operations.
  • Travel: Able to travel 40-60% of the time, including overnight and occasional weekend travel.
  • Additional: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and authorization to drive a company vehicle.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Experience managing teams in a field-based medical setting within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of hematology and related scientific and clinical data.

Compensation and Benefits Summary (U.S. Location - Virtual):

  • Base Salary Range: $169,400 - $266,200, depending on qualifications, experience, and location.
  • Eligible for short-term and long-term incentives, medical benefits, 401(k) with company match, life insurance, paid time off, and more.
