Purpose

The Director – Cardiometabolic Health HEOR Research provides strategic leadership in health economics, outcomes research, real-world evidence (RWE), and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for Lilly’s cardiometabolic health portfolio. The role drives evidence generation to support drug development, commercialization, access, and clinical decision-making.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Strategy

  • Lead integration of HEOR from early clinical development through commercialization.

  • Develop and oversee health outcomes research strategy for relevant therapeutic areas.

  • Serve as a strategic partner on core/lead teams throughout development and commercialization.

  • Formulate and implement PRO, RWE, and economic value strategies for products and regions.

2. Study Development & Execution

  • Design and execute high-impact scientific studies across the product lifecycle.

  • Apply technical expertise in statistical analysis, economic modeling, clinical trials, observational research, or health technology assessment.

  • Utilize disease state knowledge and research methods to address HEOR challenges related to registration, pricing, reimbursement, and access.

3. Organizational Leadership & Influence

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead HEOR evidence planning and implementation in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Influence business partners and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.

4. Information Dissemination

  • Communicate HEOR findings effectively to internal partners, scientific communities, and external customers.

  • Lead dissemination of research through abstracts, posters, presentations, promotional materials, and manuscripts.

  • Align research results with organizational objectives to maximize impact.

5. Environmental Awareness

  • Stay informed of developments in disease states, HEOR methodologies, and healthcare trends.

  • Anticipate and evaluate market needs for HEOR evidence.

  • Monitor internal and external factors shaping HEOR research generation and utilization.

6. Project Management

  • Ensure HEOR projects meet timelines, budgets, and scope.

  • Coordinate research efforts with cross-functional business partners and external collaborators.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (PhD, MD) OR PharmD/MS.

  • 10–12+ years of experience creating, executing, and delivering outcomes research strategies/projects.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pragmatic studies, regulatory-grade RWE, causal inference, novel RWE modalities (e.g., wearables), or advanced modeling (e.g., synthetic data).

  • Experience in obesity-focused real-world evidence research.

  • Strong comprehension and communication skills to translate complex scientific information clearly.

  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

  • Understanding of healthcare systems in at least one region: US, Europe, or Asia.

  • Familiarity with healthcare delivery models and clinical research.

  • Technical expertise in economic modeling, cost-effectiveness, patient-focused outcomes, burden of disease, epidemiology, statistics, or health policy.

  • Ability to drive research agendas to completion and dissemination.

  • Global mindset with customer focus and solution orientation.


Additional Information

  • Domestic and international travel may be required.

  • Position location preference: Indianapolis; remote work considered.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated Salary: $153,000 – $272,800

  • Eligible for performance-based bonus.
