Role Summary:

Pfizer is seeking a Statistical Research and Innovation (SRI) expert to provide scientific leadership and technical support for clinical and non-clinical projects. The position is focused on advanced statistical methodologies, novel study designs, and data analyses in drug and vaccine development. You will work on complex statistical problems, collaborate across therapeutic areas, and contribute to regulatory strategies, product defense, and scientific advancements. This is a science-based role with limited managerial responsibilities, and offers opportunities for mentorship, research, and external professional engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Statistical Leadership:
    • Provide statistical advice on complex issues in Pfizer’s drug development projects.
    • Lead the development and implementation of advanced statistical methodologies, ensuring their effective application in both clinical and non-clinical research.
  • Innovation & Methodology Development:
    • Design, implement, and promote state-of-the-art statistical research methodologies.
    • Perform and assist with novel study designs, complex data analyses, and the creation of specialized software tools.
  • Collaboration & Consultation:
    • Work closely with the Statistics Leadership Team and Pfizer management in Discovery, Clinical Development, Regulatory, and other teams to provide statistical input for key decisions and strategies.
    • Build effective collaborations with internal non-statistical teams (Clinical, PharmSci, Safety, etc.) and external stakeholders (academia, government, industry).
  • Regulatory Influence & Product Defense:
    • Actively participate in discussions concerning go/no-go decisions, regulatory strategies, and product defense strategies.
    • Influence regulatory guidelines and their interpretation in practice by engaging with professional organizations and stakeholders.
  • Professional Engagement & Knowledge Dissemination:
    • Share new methodologies, regulatory updates, and statistical knowledge with Pfizer statisticians and the broader scientific community.
    • Publish research and present at conferences to share advancements in statistical methodologies and drug development.
  • Mentorship & Training:
    • Mentor junior statisticians and new hires, helping to develop their skills and contribute to their professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or equivalent postgraduate statistical training.
  • Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience in drug development or related fields. Candidates with less experience will be considered if they demonstrate exceptional research credentials and potential.
  • Skills:

    • Expertise in statistical computing (e.g., R, SAS).
    • Strong communication skills for conveying complex statistical concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Broad understanding of statistical theory and its application in drug development.
    • Evidence of creative thought-leadership and scholarly contributions (e.g., publications, presentations).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialized Knowledge:

    • Good understanding of Bayesian statistics and high-performance computing.
  • Leadership:

    • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including collaboration, mentorship, and the ability to drive impactful outcomes.

  • Work Location: Hybrid.
  • Compensation:
    • Salary: $161,600 to $269,400 annually.
    • Bonus: Eligible for a 20% performance-based bonus.
    • Long-term incentive: Eligible to participate in Pfizer’s share-based program.
