Job Purpose

The Director – Biostatistics is accountable for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Global Statistical Sciences (GSS) function at LCCI, Bangalore. This includes:

  • Managing statistical capabilities in study design, data analysis, interpretation, and methodological innovation.

  • Driving operational excellence and efficiency in the delivery of statistical outputs across the Lilly portfolio.

  • Leading a highly engaged workforce and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Enabling GSS Deliverables

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for GSS at LCCI.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives within GSS and R&D, influencing broader organizational strategy.

  • Partner with Associate VP/VPs and global GSS leadership to plan, forecast, and manage resources for all projects.

  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement within LCCI and across GSS aligned with therapeutic area and business unit priorities.

2. Statistical & Analytical Capabilities Development

  • Build and strengthen technical capabilities of the LCCI statistics team.

  • Develop strategies and expertise in advanced statistical methods.

  • Foster therapeutic, scientific, and environmental expertise to ensure proactive delivery of business needs.

  • Facilitate staff engagement with external academic and professional organizations.

  • Leverage global statistical networks to accelerate innovation and address complex scientific questions.

3. Site Leadership & Partnership

  • Engage with LCCI Site Leadership and other functional groups to support site strategy and operational effectiveness.

  • Collaborate closely with GSS teams in Cork and Lilly Corporate Center to drive continuous improvement and identify site-wide opportunities.

4. Enterprise Leadership

  • Exhibit business acumen, problem-solving skills, and agility in managing cross-functional priorities.

  • Maintain awareness of external environment through benchmarking, collaborations, and professional involvement.

  • Represent GSS internally and externally, ensuring compliance with best practices, guidelines, and regulations.

  • Drive shared learning, continuous improvement, and key performance metric enhancement.

5. People Management & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports and a strategic, operationally capable workforce.

  • Recruit, retain, and build an agile organization capable of adapting to a changing portfolio.

  • Foster an inclusive and innovative organizational culture.

  • Support professional development, strategic thinking, project management, and leadership skill-building for the team.


Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics

  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience

  • At least 7 years of supervisory experience; 5 years as a “leader of leaders” preferred

  • Broad knowledge of the drug development process, including regulatory, quality, and industry standards

  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategies across people, processes, and technology

  • Strong influence and collaboration skills across matrixed, global teams

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated success in leading high-performing teams and problem-solving


Other Information / Preferences

  • Expected travel: ~10%

  • Ability to proactively identify issues and provide solutions, including risk mitigation strategies

  • Strong ability to align teams to common objectives and priorities
