Position Overview:

The Director – Biostatistics (GSS, LCCI) is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Global Statistical Sciences (GSS) function at LCCI, Bangalore. This role will work closely with global GSS leadership to align and execute statistical strategies and ensure high-quality, efficient delivery of statistical services across Lilly’s drug development portfolio.


Key Responsibilities:

1. GSS Deliverables & Strategic Oversight

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for GSS at LCCI.

  • Act as a leader across GSS and R&D, influencing cross-functional initiatives.

  • Collaborate with global GSS and local AVPs/VPs for resource planning and forecasting.

  • Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement across teams.

2. Statistical & Analytical Capability Development

  • Build and maintain strong technical and statistical expertise within the team.

  • Foster expertise in advanced statistical methodologies and tools.

  • Strengthen therapeutic and scientific domain knowledge.

  • Promote engagement with external academic and professional organizations.

  • Leverage global and external networks to solve complex scientific/statistical questions.

3. Site Leadership & Collaboration

  • Support site-wide strategy and effectiveness in partnership with LCCI leadership.

  • Collaborate with GSS teams at Cork and Corporate HQ to identify and scale best practices.

  • Investigate and implement site-level opportunities to improve delivery and performance.

4. Enterprise Leadership

  • Exhibit strong business acumen and adaptability to evolving priorities.

  • Benchmark external industry practices and represent GSS in professional forums.

  • Ensure compliance with global regulations, best practices, and company policies.

  • Drive improvement in performance metrics and process efficiencies.

  • Promote cross-team knowledge sharing and shared learning.

5. People Management & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of biostatisticians and leaders.

  • Recruit and retain top talent with expertise in statistics and analytical thinking.

  • Build an agile team aligned to changing business and portfolio needs.

  • Foster an inclusive, innovative, and growth-oriented team culture.

  • Enable career development in therapeutic areas, leadership, and project management.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Statistics/Biostatistics

  • 15+ years of industry experience

  • 7+ years in supervisory roles (including 5+ years as a leader of leaders)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the drug development process

  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives

  • Strong collaboration and influence in a matrixed organization

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Track record in problem-solving, risk mitigation, and operational leadership

  • Ability to unite diverse teams under common objectives


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in advanced biostatistical methods and regulatory submission support

  • Strong global collaboration experience

  • Exposure to cross-functional or cross-site leadership

  • Professional engagement in external statistical communities
