Job Summary

The Director, Biometrics (Clinical DB Programming) provides strategic and operational leadership for the Biometrics function across India. This role oversees clinical database programming operations, ensures alignment with global biometrics strategies, and drives high-quality delivery of clinical data management and statistical programming services.

The position also leads long-term strategic planning, operational excellence initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration with global teams. As the senior biometrics leader within the region, the Director will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, strengthen operational efficiency, and support the delivery of high-quality clinical research outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Biometrics function across the India region.

  • Align regional biometrics strategies with global functional objectives to support efficient clinical trial delivery.

  • Lead and manage the India Biometrics team, ensuring adherence to quality standards, regulatory requirements, and operational goals.

  • Collaborate with global leadership in Biostatistics, Programming, Data Science, and Clinical Data Management to execute strategic initiatives.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and associated documentation.

  • Lead the design and implementation of training programs for biometrics teams, including onboarding, credentialing, and professional development initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with training certification processes through the organization’s Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues, audit findings, and compliance gaps, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support operational excellence and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Drive process improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to enhance efficiency and service quality.

  • Support the development and execution of Biometrics optimization plans focused on documentation, training, and quality improvements.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the biometrics team.

  • Contribute to financial and operational performance of the Biometrics Business Unit through strategic resource management and operational efficiency.

  • Maintain awareness of clinical research trends, technologies, and regulatory updates to ensure alignment with global industry standards.

  • Mentor and support biometrics professionals in executing process improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

  • Manage line leadership responsibilities including performance management, workforce planning, recruitment, and professional development.

  • Conduct regular team meetings, leadership discussions, and performance evaluations to support team engagement and productivity.

  • Lead recruitment and workforce planning strategies to ensure appropriate resource allocation across biometrics operations.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 12–15 years of experience in clinical research with a strong background in clinical programming, biometrics, or biostatistics.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership or regional/global management role.

  • Experience working within a global Contract Research Organization (CRO), pharmaceutical company, or biotechnology organization.

  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional biometrics teams across multiple regions.

Educational Qualification

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of clinical trial processes and statistical methodologies.

  • Expertise in CDISC standards including SDTM and ADaM.

  • Understanding of regulatory submission requirements such as FDA and EMA guidelines.

  • Experience with statistical programming tools including SAS, R, or Python.

  • Familiarity with enterprise clinical systems such as Medidata, Oracle Clinical, Veeva, or other clinical trial platforms.

Leadership Skills

  • Proven ability to lead and manage large biometrics teams across global locations.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience translating global strategic initiatives into operational execution.

  • Ability to drive large-scale process improvements and organizational change.
