Description:

The Director / Associate Director, Employment Law APAC provides employment legal support and counseling for Fortrea and its business leaders. As the APAC Senior Employment Counsel, this role is responsible for advising on a variety of employment law issues across multiple regions, including India, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and other Asia Pacific operations. This position works closely with the VP Employment Law to provide day-to-day legal expertise across a full range of employee relations and labor/employment matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support to the Human Resources (HR) department and other stakeholders on employment-related issues, including recruitment, background screening, benefits, employee conduct, and terminations.
  • Review and draft employment-related documentation such as employment contracts, termination agreements, employee policies, and training materials.
  • Advise on employee relations matters, including investigations, conduct issues, and disciplinary actions.
  • Offer legal counsel on potential litigation and legal risks, as well as manage litigation cases.
  • Advise HR and other stakeholders while coordinating with external counsel as necessary.
  • Conduct training for HR and other business areas as required.

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Education: Juris Doctor degree or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of India employment law is essential; experience with employment laws across the Asia Pacific region is preferred.
  • Experience in advising on complex employment disputes and legal issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong drafting and legal interpretation abilities.
  • Analytical skills to assess legal issues effectively.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and stay organized.
  • Proactive, independent, and capable of driving projects to resolution.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive work culture and valuing diverse perspectives.

Experience (Minimum Required):

  • 12+ years post-qualification experience as a lawyer, either in a reputed law firm or as an in-house employment lawyer.
  • Experience liaising with external counsel across multiple time zones.
  • Industry experience or knowledge of clinical development is strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools and Teams.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • The role is located in Bangalore, but flexible scheduling and remote work options are available within the region’s jurisdiction.
