Job Overview:
The Coding Specialist II will provide technical oversight and leadership in dictionary coding activities across global or multiple clinical data management projects. This includes responsibility for thesaurus management and ensuring high-quality, on-time, and budget-conscious delivery of coded medical data per Fortrea/client standards. The role involves close collaboration with project data leads and various functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage medical coding tasks across global clinical studies

  • Support team members with career development and competency growth

  • Identify and implement solutions for project data management coding issues

  • Serve as coding liaison for project-specific status updates

  • Review coding sections of Data Management Plans and study-specific conventions

  • Collaborate across departments (clinical, statistics, programming, etc.) for cohesive data handling

  • Contribute to SOP and Work Instruction development and improvements

  • Maintain coding competencies through internal/external training

  • Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of coded data to clients

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within thesaurus management and coding

  • Perform dictionary verifications for Fortrea and client dictionaries

  • Stay updated with literature and research for enhancing thesaurus practices

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or related field; or equivalent allied health certification

  • Fluency in English (verbal and written)

Experience Required:

  • 3–4 years in clinical data management, including 2 years in medical coding (MedDRA & WHODrug)

  • Proficient in coding tools (e.g., Medidata Coder, Central Coding)

  • Strong knowledge of coding standards, ICH-GCP, and regulatory requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills

  • Understanding of clinical trial processes and data management lifecycle

  • Experience with thesaurus management and standard coding dictionaries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MedDRA certification

  • Familiarity with Fortrea systems and procedures

Work Environment:

  • Office or home-based setup

  • Regional travel up to 5%, with half potentially requiring overnight stay
