Medical Coder – Profee OB/GYN (E/M & Procedure Coding | ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS)

Job Overview

A healthcare services organization is hiring a Medical Coder – Profee OB/GYN responsible for accurate clinical coding of diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. The role focuses on Evaluation & Management (E/M) and procedural coding within OB/GYN specialty workflows, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely turnaround of medical records.

This position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to maintain high coding quality standards in a structured healthcare operations environment.


Experience Required

1 to 2 years of experience in medical coding (OB/GYN, E/M, or procedure coding preferred)
Freshers with strong academic background in Life Sciences, Paramedical, or Allied Health Sciences may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate medical diagnoses and procedures into ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes accurately.

  • Perform OB/GYN coding with focus on E/M and procedural documentation.

  • Ensure daily coding assignments are completed within defined Turnaround Time (TAT).

  • Review assigned coding volumes and prioritize work based on Team Lead instructions.

  • Maintain high-quality coding output in alignment with client guidelines and regulatory standards.

  • Meet productivity and accuracy targets (typically 95%+ accuracy benchmark).

  • Participate in QA discussions and weekly team meetings.

  • Incorporate feedback from Quality Analysts and Team Leads to improve accuracy.

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with healthcare data security policies.

  • Report any data security or compliance issues as per organizational protocol.


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and clinical documentation

  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines

  • Ability to interpret complex medical records across specialties (especially OB/GYN)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and in team environments

  • High accuracy with speed in data processing


Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Microsoft Office tools

  • Experience with coding tools such as:

    • 3M Encoder

    • TruCode

    • Optum Encoder

  • Exposure to EHR/EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, etc.)

  • Familiarity with multiple coding domains including:

    • Emergency Department (ED)

    • Evaluation & Management (OP/IP)

    • Radiology and procedure-based coding
