Job Title: Medical Coder

Department: Medical Coding

Job Description:

As a Medical Coder, you will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments into standardized codes used for billing and reporting. Your role ensures the seamless processing of healthcare claims and compliance with regulatory guidelines, contributing to the organization's operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

Coding & Documentation:

  • Review patient medical records and assign accurate codes (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) for diagnoses, procedures, and treatments.
  • Ensure that codes comply with legal and insurance regulations.
  • Maintain detailed and organized coding records for audits and reviews.

Compliance:

  • Stay updated on coding standards, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS changes.
  • Adhere to industry regulations and guidelines, including HIPAA and payer-specific requirements.
  • Perform regular quality checks to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and billing teams to clarify ambiguous documentation.
  • Provide feedback to physicians and other staff on improving documentation for coding purposes.

Reporting:

  • Prepare reports on coding performance, trends, and areas needing improvement.
  • Support audit processes and resolve discrepancies identified during reviews.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in ongoing training sessions and professional development to stay updated on medical coding standards.
  • Identify areas for improvement in coding processes and contribute to process optimization.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Diploma, Certificate, or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Medical, Paramedical, Life Sciences preferred).

Experience:

  • 0–3 years of experience in medical coding (freshers with relevant certifications are encouraged to apply).

Certifications (Preferred):

  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCA (Certified Coding Associate), or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist).

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency in coding software and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
