About the Role

The IP DRG Coder is responsible for performing accurate medical coding, conducting audit reviews, and supporting billing teams to ensure compliant and timely claim processing. This role requires strong expertise in CPT and ICD-10 coding, adherence to Medicare and HIPAA standards, and the ability to work independently within assigned work queues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive coding audits and documentation reviews, including coordination with co-source partners.

  • Assign and validate CPT and ICD-10 codes for inpatient DRG-related services as required.

  • Collaborate with billing teams and manage system work queues to ensure correct claim payments.

  • Ensure full compliance with Medicare guidelines, coding initiatives, and federal regulations.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and information security policies.

  • Handle protected health information (PHI) responsibly, limiting access strictly to job-related requirements.

  • Work independently on assigned tasks and maintain a professional and organized work approach.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the management team.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Certification: CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) mandatory.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience, specifically in IP DRG coding.

    • Experience in OP, Denials, or SDS coding is preferred.

    • Surgical coding experience is an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and job-specific software tools.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across organizational levels.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with sound judgment and the ability to perform accurate and timely analyses.

  • High integrity, reliability, and a strong results-driven work ethic.

  • Customer-oriented mindset with a professional and welcoming attitude.


Working Conditions

Physical Requirements
