Job Overview

Omega Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Inpatient Coder to support coding operations for an acute care teaching and Level 1 trauma facility. This role requires advanced proficiency in coding trauma, complex medical cases, and high-acuity surgical procedures across multiple specialties. The position offers remote flexibility following initial training and is designed to support holiday coverage, with the potential for extension based on business needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate inpatient coding for trauma Level 1 facilities, covering a broad range of specialties including:

    • Cardiac, Vascular, Interventional Radiology

    • Spinal Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology

    • Transplants, Oncology, Oral Surgery

    • Orthopedics, Behavioral Medicine, Psychiatry

    • OB/GYN, Neonatal, Pediatrics

    • General Medicine and General Surgery

  • Abstract, assign, and validate diagnosis and procedure codes using Cerner and 3M systems.

  • Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

  • Maintain a minimum of 95 percent coding accuracy across all assigned cases.

  • Meet productivity expectations, including the ability to code 10 complex cases per day.

  • Work independently while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations.

  • Participate in initial training between 8 AM and 5 PM EST for the first week (2–4 hour blocks as required).

  • Support variable workload demands during the holiday coverage period.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years inpatient coding experience in acute care teaching hospitals and Level 1 trauma facilities.

  • Extensive experience coding complex medical and surgical specialties, including trauma, high-acuity cases, and multidisciplinary procedures.

  • Mandatory Certifications: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS.

  • Proficiency with Cerner and 3M coding platforms.

  • Ability to maintain high accuracy and meet productivity benchmarks.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of self-discipline and ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision in a remote environment.

  • Availability for full-time workload (40 hours per week) with flexibility after training.
