Job Purpose
The Coder applies coding skills to perform invoice reviews and provide expert guidance to billing staff, ensuring accurate coding and regulatory compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct audits and coding reviews to ensure all documentation is accurate, including co-source partner work.
Assign and sequence CPT and ICD-10 codes for services rendered as required.
Collaborate with billing staff and system work queues to ensure proper claim payments.
Comply with Medicare policy requirements, coding initiatives, and guidelines.
Work independently from assigned work queues.
Maintain confidentiality and a professional attitude at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Use, protect, and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with HIPAA standards.
Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures.
Limit viewing of PHI to the minimum necessary to perform assigned duties.
Qualifications
CPC certification from AAPC or CCS certification from AHIMA.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of coding experience in relevant specialties (IP DRG, OP, Denials, SDS, etc.).
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Ability to use job-related software.
Surgical coding experience is a plus.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels of the organization.
Strong problem-solving and creative skills, with sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
High integrity, dependability, urgency, and results-oriented approach.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working Conditions
Physical Demands: Occasional movement around the work area, sitting, performing manual tasks, operating office equipment, extending arms, kneeling, talking, and hearing.
