🧪 About the Role

Fortrea is hiring a Clinical Research Physician for our Phase I Clinical Research Unit in Madison, WI. This role is ideal for a physician seeking a balanced schedule, close collaboration with clinical research teams, and the opportunity to contribute directly to early-phase drug development.

You’ll be fully immersed in the clinical trial environment — working with healthy volunteers, helping develop new therapies, and ensuring participant safety during each phase of the research.


🔍 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite medical coverage and oversight for healthy volunteers participating in clinical trials

  • Serve as Sub-Investigator or Principal Investigator, as assigned

  • Perform pre-study, on-study, and post-study physical exams

  • Participate in the development and execution of clinical study protocols

  • Attend and contribute to IRB/IEC meetings and client site visits

  • Ensure compliance with GCP/ICH standards and regulatory guidelines

  • Support participant safety, protocol adherence, and ethical conduct throughout studies

  • Communicate effectively with clinical teams, sponsors, regulators, and trial participants

  • Participate in an on-call rotation (1 in 5 weekends) — from home, with clinic visits as needed

  • Handle additional tasks as needed


🎓 Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Licensing

  • MD or DO degree

  • Active Wisconsin medical license (or willingness to obtain)

  • Active DEA license

Certifications

  • CPR/AED certified

  • ACLS certified

Experience

  • 2+ years clinical experience in Family Medicine or Primary Care preferred

  • Clinical trial experience is a plus

  • Strong understanding of patient safety and clinical research ethics

Language Skills

  • Proficiency in spoken, written, and reading English

Fortrea may consider relevant and equivalent experience in lieu of specific educational requirements.


🗓️ Schedule & Work/Life Balance

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (hours may vary slightly based on study enrollment)

  • Call Rotation: 1 weekend out of 5 (remote/on-call, come in only as needed)
