Clinical Research Assistant Job Description

Overview
The Clinical Research Assistant supports Clinical Research Coordinators during patient visits, ensuring high standards of care and adherence to research protocols. This part-time role requires approximately 15 hours per week, including half-day shifts on Saturdays (8:00 AM - 1:00 PM), around 3 hours on Sunday mornings, and occasional additional hours during the week for a 6-month period.

This position is ideal for students pursuing a career in the sciences or licensed practical nurses (LPNs) seeking hands-on clinical research experience in a dynamic and innovative environment.


Responsibilities

  • Patient Visit Assistance

    • Support coordinators during patient visits by:
      • Taking vital signs.
      • Performing ECGs.
      • Measuring weight and height.
      • Assisting with venipunctures under supervision (if trained and authorized).
    • Aid in administering investigational drugs and specialized techniques during visits.
    • Complete study source documents accurately.
  • Operational Support

    • Prepare examination rooms and maintain equipment.
    • Archive research documents.
    • Prepare for scheduled patient visit days.
  • Compliance and Training

    • Understand and adhere to internal procedures and protocols.
    • Maintain a current and complete personal training file.

Requirements

Education

  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program or a related field.
  • CPR certification (an asset).

Experience

  • Practical experience with patients (internships or academic activities are acceptable).
  • Clinical research experience or interest (an asset).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bilingual in French and English (oral and written).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a clinical environment.
  • Strong teamwork skills, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
