Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of all genetic counseling staff and clinical schedules for preconception, prenatal, hereditary cancer, hereditary cardiac, proactive, and pharmacogenomics testing. It serves as a liaison between genetics, specialty providers, and the Director of Precision Medicine. This role leads the day-to-day operations of genetic counselors and genetic navigators and coordinates the evaluation of Genetic Counseling students. The position aligns with the mission of St. Elizabeth Medical Center as sponsored by the Bishop of the Covington Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day operations related to the Genetic Counseling staff, including orientation, scheduling, quality assurance, and performance reporting.
  • Assist the director in maintaining staff compliance with all regulatory bodies related to the genetic program at St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
  • Provide reports, billing information, and follow-up.
  • Assist in the implementation of new genetic counseling services within the Precision Medicine department.
  • Manage clinical caseloads.
  • Provide clinical expertise for complex cases, including advanced genetic counseling for prenatal, adult, and cancer referrals. Assess recurrence risks and recommend genetic testing based on risk, benefit, cost, and psychosocial support.
  • Serve as a liaison between genetics and other clinical departments.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and coordinate additional training.
  • Identify and address service and operational issues, supporting research and solution implementation.
  • Oversee genetic counseling experiences for new employees, students, and trainees while promoting assertive, open, and receptive communication.
  • Teach classes, workshops, and individuals within the medical and general community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, and Licenses:

  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (American Board of Genetic Counseling).
  • Must be licensed by the state where work is being performed.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard hospital practices, procedures, and techniques relevant to the department and clinical schedules.
  • Knowledge of adult learning techniques, human genetics principles, and counseling techniques.
  • Experience in pedigree analysis, risk assessment, screening, testing, counseling, and identification of support resources.
  • Knowledge of clinical features and natural history of various genetic diseases.
  • Familiarity with cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, and molecular genetics testing.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications.

Experience Required:

  • 3-5 years of previous genetic counseling experience with demonstrated program development skills.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in student supervision.
