Job Overview
IQVIA is seeking a Clinical Data Coder 1 to provide comprehensive data management and coding expertise in support of clinical trials. The role involves coding, validation, quality control, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality clinical data management products. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex clinical studies and coding projects, supporting both internal teams and external sponsors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform coding and clinical data management tasks for one or more study protocols.

  • Lead coding activities or specific CDM tasks, including Data Operations Coordinator (DOC) responsibilities on large trials.

  • Validate and test coding applications, reports, and related datasets or programming activities.

  • Conduct data review, write, and resolve data clarifications.

  • Manage project timelines under guidance from DOC, Data Team Lead (DTL), or Manager.

  • Perform Serious Adverse Event (SAE) reconciliation activities.

  • Act as a backup for Lead Coders, DOC, or DTL as required.

  • Implement comprehensive quality control procedures and support the adoption of new technologies.

  • Develop and propose coding and project-related solutions independently.

  • Ensure audit readiness for assigned studies and stand-alone coding projects.

  • Comply with core operating procedures, work instructions, and study-specific requirements.

  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with team members, managers, and clients.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Dental, Medical, Nursing, Life Sciences, or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in clinical data management or medical coding.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • In-depth experience with medical coding dictionaries such as MedDRA and WHODD.

  • Understanding of the full Data Management lifecycle from study start-up to database lock.

  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.

  • Knowledge of database technologies and coding-related software.

  • Familiarity with operating procedures, work instructions, and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships across teams.

  • LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse State Licensure preferred.
