Role Purpose

The Associate Scientific Director, Translational Quantitative Pharmacology (TQP) will be part of the Quantitative Pharmacology (QP) group within Clinical Measurement Sciences (CMS).

This scientific and cross-functional leadership role will:

  • Develop and execute Model-Informed Drug Development (MIDD) strategies

  • Oversee internal and external TQP activities (including CROs)

  • Drive innovation in mechanism-based PK/PD modeling, QSP, and PBPK

  • Influence decisions across discovery to early clinical development


Key Responsibilities

🔬 Scientific Leadership

  • Independently contribute to and advance the science of TQP

  • Mentor and guide junior scientists in modeling and simulation

  • Lead PK/PD model development from lead optimization to clinical PoC

📊 Modeling & Simulation

  • Design and analyze preclinical PK/PD experiments

  • Conduct human PK and DDI predictions

  • Apply models to predict FIM (First-in-Man) dosing

  • Use models to interpret and quantify toxicological signals (hepatic, cardiac, renal, dermal)

  • Utilize commercial tools or develop internal models for therapeutic index assessments

🤝 Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Interface with:

    • Research Units: Oncology, Neurology & Immunology

    • Functions: Clinical Pharmacology, Biostatistics, DMPK, Toxicology, Biomarkers, Pharmacometrics, Data Sciences

  • Present modeling outcomes at internal/external meetings and regulatory filings

  • Contribute to regulatory documentation (e.g., IBs, INDs, CTDs)


Strategic Impact

  • Provide scientific and technical expertise to implement and promote MIDD strategy

  • Contribute to decision-making tools that ensure the right dose to the right patient


Collaboration & Representation

🔄 Internal Interfaces:

  • Project teams across therapeutic areas

  • CMS and QP teams

🌐 External Interfaces:

  • Represent company in IQ consortia, academic collaborations

  • Present at conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals


Candidate Profile

🎓 Education & Experience

  • Ph.D. in:

    • Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences

    • Biomedical/Chemical Engineering

    • Applied Mathematics or related field

  • Minimum 5 years of industry or academic experience in TQP, QSP, or related disciplines

  • Fluent in English

🧪 Technical Expertise

  • Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP)

  • Mechanism-based PK/PD modeling

  • Software/tools: MATLAB/SimBiology, NONMEM, R, Monolix

  • PBPK modeling: Simcyp, GastroPlus, MATLAB

  • Toxicology modeling tools (e.g., DILIsym, RenaSym) – highly desirable

  • Understanding of immunology, oncology, or immuno-oncology

  • Strong ability to mentor and educate across teams

  • Capability to translate biology into multi-scale models

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Independent and collaborative working style

  • Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals or conferences
