Job Opportunity: Associate Director, Scientific Communications Lead - Solid Tumors

Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid Role)

Takeda Oncology is seeking a highly skilled professional to join its Global Medical Affairs Oncology team. This role plays a pivotal part in developing and executing scientific publication and communication strategies that align with the company’s commitment to delivering innovative cancer therapies.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute global and regional strategic publication plans and scientific communication plans in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the publications planning team and annual publication workshops for assigned programs.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on scientific communication best practices, publication ethics, and global guidelines (e.g., GPP3, ICMJE).

Scientific Publications and Communication

  • Oversee the development of publications, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations, ensuring scientific accuracy and compliance.
  • Initiate and maintain effective communication with authors, opinion leaders, and internal stakeholders for content development.
  • Create and manage scientific communication deliverables, including slide decks, animations, and digital amplification content.

Operational Excellence

  • Manage vendor relationships, budgets, and publication management systems such as Datavision.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical guidelines.
  • Lead or contribute to the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for scientific communications.

Collaboration and Training

  • Work cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Regulatory Affairs teams.
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues on publication strategy and execution.
  • Represent Takeda at conferences and act as a liaison between internal teams and external contributors.

Scientific Platform Development

  • Drive the creation of the scientific platform for assigned programs, ensuring a unified and consistent scientific voice across communication channels.
  • Engage in innovative approaches to data analytics, publications, and dissemination strategies.

Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Preferred: Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, or equivalent) in a scientific discipline.
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with significant relevant experience.

Experience

  • At least 5+ years in healthcare or related fields, including 3+ years in medical publication development.
  • Strong understanding of oncology, clinical trial data, and pharmaceutical life cycle management.
  • Experience with global publication planning processes, medical writing, and managing external vendors.

Skills and Competencies

  • Expertise in publication standards (GPP3, ICMJE, CONSORT) and compliance regulations.
  • Proficiency in Datavision, MS Project, and other publication management tools.
  • Excellent project management, collaboration, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex medical data into clear, impactful communications.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $149,100–$234,300 per year (based on qualifications, experience, and location).
