Purpose

MSLs are field-based medical professionals with deep content knowledge in specific therapeutic areas. They facilitate scientific exchange with Scientific Experts (SEs), provide unbiased, accurate medical information, and deliver insights from customer interactions to inform Lilly’s research and commercialization strategies.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Scientific Expertise & Knowledge Management

  • Maintain deep, up-to-date knowledge of the therapeutic area and disease state.

  • Engage in continuous learning to provide credible, peer-respected information.

  • Establish oneself as a trusted, reliable source of scientific and medical expertise.

2. Customer Engagement & Support

  • Spend majority of time field-based, interacting directly with SEs.

  • Provide accurate, advanced disease-state and product information.

  • Facilitate scientific exchange between SEs and Lilly internal resources.

  • Identify collaborative research opportunities and external partnerships.

3. Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Synthesize complex data and communicate insights to Lilly medical and cross-functional teams.

  • Utilize creative problem-solving and internal resources to address scientific and business needs.

  • Independently make principle-based decisions or escalate appropriately.

  • Contribute actively to medical planning and affiliate strategies.

4. Territory Ownership & Planning

  • Demonstrate strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization within the assigned territory.

  • Implement and evaluate a territory plan, maximizing efficiency and prioritizing core MSL activities.

  • Take personal accountability for achieving results and objectives.

5. Compliance & Governance

  • Execute all responsibilities in compliance with internal and external requirements, procedures, and laws.

  • Demonstrate sound judgment at all times in adherence to company policies.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field) preferred.

  • 2–3 years relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience (Masters or Bachelor’s with 5+ years clinical/research/industry experience may be considered).

  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Intellectual curiosity in the relevant field of science/medicine.

  • Learning agility to communicate complex scientific content clearly.

  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

  • Strong presentation, computer, and literature identification skills.

  • Effective strategic, analytical, and critical thinking.

  • High emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and professional networking abilities.

  • Experience servicing customer needs for complex information.

  • Familiarity with health systems, academic communities, medical research, and medical education.


Other Information

  • Field-based position in Dallas, Texas; Northern and Western Texas territory.

  • Ability to travel up to 80% and work 4–6 weekends per year.

  • Candidates should live near Dallas or be willing to relocate; proximity to a transport hub required.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated Salary: $145,500 – $234,300

  • Eligible for company bonus based on performance.
