Role Overview

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical professional specializing in the Neuroscience therapeutic area. The MSL serves as a key interface between Lilly and scientific experts, providing deep scientific knowledge, capturing insights, and shaping the strategic direction of research. This role enables scientific exchange that informs clinical and scientific decision-making while addressing critical medical questions.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Expertise & Knowledge

  • Maintain deep, up-to-date knowledge of Neuroscience disease states, Lilly and competitor compounds, and current scientific issues.

  • Engage in continuous learning to provide credible, unbiased, and accurate medical and scientific information.

  • Establish themselves as a trusted resource for scientific experts.

Customer Engagement & Medical Support

  • Conduct field-based, customer-facing interactions with scientific experts, engaging in two-way scientific dialogue.

  • Address complex scientific and clinical questions from healthcare professionals.

  • Connect experts with internal Lilly resources and identify potential collaborative research opportunities.

Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Synthesize complex scientific data and communicate meaningful clinical insights to Lilly medical and cross-functional teams.

  • Utilize creative problem-solving and internal resources to execute solutions.

  • Apply principle-based decision-making, escalating issues when appropriate.

  • Contribute actively to medical planning and strategy at the affiliate level.

Territory Ownership & Compliance

  • Strategically plan and prioritize territory activities to maximize efficiency and impact.

  • Implement and evaluate a strategic territory plan, taking accountability for results.

  • Operate in compliance with all internal and external laws, regulations, and procedures.


Qualifications & Experience Required

Education & Background

  • Advanced degree in health sciences: MBBS / MD / PhD in a medically related field (Medical degree and/or prior neuroscience experience preferred)

  • Previous MSL or field-based experience building relationships with scientific experts and Key Opinion Leaders in neuroscience

Experience & Skills

  • Proven ability to service complex scientific information needs

  • Experience in professional networking with mutually beneficial outcomes

  • Familiarity with health systems, academic communities, medical research, and medical education processes

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Willingness to travel up to 80% in southern and western India

  • Ability to work occasional weekends

  • Intellectual curiosity and learning agility to understand and communicate complex scientific content

  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities independently

  • Advanced presentation and computer skills; proficiency in literature identification

  • Strategic and critical thinking to analyze and assess scientific information

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Resiliency in managing complex challenges

  • High emotional intelligence, teamwork, and professional relationship-building skills
