Job Summary:
Optum is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – Medical Coding to lead a team of certified coders and ensure excellence in coding operations. This role is ideal for professionals who bring a strong background in performance management, quality control, and medical coding expertise. The position involves managing coding teams, driving compliance, and fostering a high-performance culture in alignment with company values and healthcare excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of 25–30 certified medical coders, ensuring effective onboarding and training.
Oversee performance metrics including timeliness, quality, and productivity.
Monitor job outcomes, coach and counsel team members, and enforce systems and productivity standards.
Identify trends, resolve quality/customer service issues, and recommend improvements.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge in medical coding by participating in workshops and professional societies.
Promote employee engagement through clear communication, skill-based empowerment, and continuous feedback.
Ensure adherence to company policies, including flexibility in work arrangements and operational directives.
Required Qualifications:
Graduate in any discipline.
Certified coder from AAPC or AHIMA.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a Team Leader or Assistant Manager role.
Experience managing a team of at least 15 coders.
Proven track record in performance management, coaching, quality assurance, and team development.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Familiarity with basic office equipment like copiers and fax machines.
