Position Purpose:

The Area Medical Advisor (AMA) provides scientific expertise, builds knowledge, and develops activity-based relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to:

  • Advance medical practice and research for societal benefit

  • Enhance Pfizer’s image in the scientific community

  • Ensure scientific, technical, and ethical soundness of policies and initiatives

The role acts as a critical interface with scientific leaders and contributes to understanding diseases, research trends, clinical practice guidelines, and treatment patterns.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic / Policy Support:

  • Provide tactical and strategic inputs to Product Management under guidance from mentor/line manager.

  • Offer business and technical expertise for the ethical promotion of assigned products.

Operational Responsibilities:

KOL / Key Organization Engagement:

  • Collaborate with medical affairs colleagues to implement brand plan strategies.

  • Identify and establish relationships with KOLs and organizations in relevant therapeutic areas.

  • Support KOL research and clinical activities by offering appropriate programs, grants, or projects.

  • Conduct or facilitate promotional/educational interactions with HCPs, including:

    • Customer Launch Meetings (CLMs)

    • Advisory boards

    • CME programs

    • Scientific symposia

    • Institutional presentations

  • Focus on advancing KOL stage progression (Stage I: Initiate → Stage IV: Impact) as per BU objectives.

Clinical Research:

  • Identify new investigators and institutions to expand clinical research base.

  • Provide medical support for local studies, including site visits.

  • Assist in review, interpretation, and reporting of locally sponsored study data.

  • Develop and execute publication plans, including writing and reviewing manuscripts.

Medical Initiatives:

  • Participate in KOL meetings, advisory boards, and CMEs.

  • Conduct or facilitate roundtable/group discussions with support from medical advisors.

  • Serve as speaker/moderator for CMEs in assigned therapy areas.

Medical Information:

  • Provide accurate, timely, and balanced medical information to internal (sales staff) and external (HCPs) customers.

  • Ensure adherence to SOPs and corporate policies in all communications.
