Position Overview

This is a technical lead role within the Peptide Discovery Team in Biotechnology Discovery Research (San Diego).
The Advisor/Sr. Advisor will lead the design, development, and execution of next-generation peptide phage display technologies, particularly focusing on multicyclic peptide scaffolds. The role includes hands-on experimental work, leadership of screening projects, and cross-functional collaboration to advance peptide-based therapeutics.


Key Responsibilities

Platform Development & Execution

  • Develop and refine a robust multicyclic peptide phage display platform using molecular biology, genetic engineering, and chemistry expertise.

  • Execute peptide phage display screening workflows to discover and optimize peptide hits for biological targets.

  • Innovate and implement new methods and technologies for platform enhancement.

Project Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead peptide phage display screening projects from concept to hit identification.

  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including:

    • Organic Chemistry

    • Computational Sciences

    • Structural Biology

    • Genetic Medicines

    • Drug Disposition

    • Bioproduct Development

    • Regulatory Affairs

Peptide Optimization

  • Improve peptide properties such as:

    • Binding affinity

    • Physicochemical attributes

    • Pharmaceutical developability

  • Partner with peptide chemists to apply rational SAR (Structure–Activity Relationship) strategies.

  • Validate peptide actives from selection campaigns and support biochemical/cellular assay development.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and train junior scientists in:

    • Phage display platform build

    • Experimental execution

    • Troubleshooting and problem-solving


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology, focusing on peptide science.

  • Minimum 2+ years industry experience (biotech/pharma) with:

    • Demonstrated leadership in peptide discovery

    • Track record of advancing peptide therapeutics from concept to development


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior scientists.

  • Publications or patents demonstrating expertise in state-of-the-art peptide phage display platforms.

  • Experience designing biochemical and cell-based assays for peptide discovery.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Physicochemical and ADME properties

    • Compound modeling and measurements

    • Peptide formulation considerations

  • Ability to evaluate, triage, and validate peptide leads.

  • Strong cross-functional teamwork, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.


Competencies & Attributes

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Deep understanding of challenges in:

    • Peptide discovery

    • Peptide engineering

    • Pharmaceutical developability

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $133,500 – $217,800 (based on experience, education, and location).
