Position Purpose:

The HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) Scientist plays a pivotal role in delivering impactful, real-world evidence to support drug development, access decisions, clinical strategies, and product differentiation. You will be part of a high-performing team that contributes strategic insight across Lilly's portfolio, shaping the future of healthcare through bold, evidence-based science.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Drive the integration of HEOR from early development through commercialization.

  • Develop and implement HO research strategies aligned with therapeutic area priorities.

  • Partner with lead/core teams across the product lifecycle to support market access and patient outcomes.

Study Development & Execution

  • Lead impactful HEOR studies using methodologies in:

    • Real-world evidence (RWE)

    • Economic modeling and value assessments

    • Patient-focused outcomes (PFO)

    • Epidemiologic and observational research

  • Align evidence generation with registration, reimbursement, and global access initiatives.

Communication & Dissemination

  • Present HO findings to internal stakeholders, external partners, and at scientific meetings.

  • Author and support peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, posters, and other dissemination materials.

  • Drive application of study results to maximize strategic impact.

Organizational & External Influence

  • Build strategic internal partnerships across clinical, regulatory, market access, and commercial teams.

  • Engage external collaborators, including payers, HTA bodies, research organizations, and academia.

  • Influence the internal and external HEOR environment through insight and foresight.

Environmental Monitoring

  • Stay current on HEOR methodologies and healthcare policy changes.

  • Track developments in therapeutic areas aligned to Lilly’s portfolio.

  • Anticipate and adapt to future evidence needs and market access trends.

Project Management

  • Ensure that research projects meet timelines, budget constraints, and strategic scope.

  • Coordinate activities with cross-functional and external teams.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (PhD or MD) with up to 4 years of relevant experience, OR

  • PharmD/MS with up to 4 years of HEOR experience.


Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Deep understanding of health economics, real-world data generation, and/or patient-reported outcomes.

  • Strong analytical capabilities in at least one of:

    • Economic modeling

    • Epidemiology

    • Cost-effectiveness evaluation

    • Health care policy

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with global healthcare systems (especially US, Europe, Asia) and HTA environments.

  • Experience with clinical development or post-marketing research is a plus.


Additional Information:

  • Location: Indianapolis preferred; remote work may be considered.

  • Travel: Domestic and international travel may be required.

  • Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship provided.


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $132,000 – $211,200

  • Bonus Eligible: Yes (performance-based)
