Position Summary

The Vice President, Safety Pharmacology & Science is responsible for the global leadership, strategy, organization, and management of Safety Pharmacology operations across multiple sites, including:

  • Huntingdon, UK

  • Harrogate, UK

  • Madison, Wisconsin, USA

  • Shanghai, China

The role also oversees:

  • Immunology

  • Genetic Toxicology

  • In Vitro Technology

This position ensures high-quality scientific delivery, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction, and business growth across global teams.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead and manage global Safety Pharmacology functions across multiple international locations.

  • Oversee Safety Pharmacology activities performed by Safety Assessment teams worldwide.

  • Provide strategic direction for Immunology, Genetic Toxicology, and In Vitro Technology groups.

  • Ensure efficient, high-quality scientific services for internal and external clients.

  • Partner with local leadership to align operational goals and scientific execution.

Scientific Leadership

  • Serve as a recognized industry expert in Safety Pharmacology.

  • Participate in scientific consortia, trade organizations, and industry working groups.

  • Contribute to scientific publications, regulatory discussions, and industry initiatives.

  • Support development of regulatory positions, including contributions related to ICH guidelines.

  • Drive innovation and scientific excellence across functional areas.

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Collaborate with Business Development teams to strengthen client relationships.

  • Support scientific strategy discussions with pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients.

  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, meetings, and scientific forums.

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and develop global scientific teams.

  • Foster collaboration within a highly matrixed organizational structure.

  • Drive performance, talent development, and succession planning.

  • Promote teamwork, integrity, accountability, and operational excellence.


Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • PhD in:

    • Safety Pharmacology

    • Pharmacology

    • Toxicology

Experience

  • 15+ years of leadership experience within:

    • Pharmaceutical industry, or

    • CRO (Contract Research Organization) industry
