Position Overview

The Undergrad Intern – R&D Portfolio Strategy & Execution Team (PSET) will join Amgen’s R&D Strategy & Operations organization for a 12-week internship focused on project-based and experiential learning.

The PSET function supports:

  • Research portfolio and project management

  • Collaborations and outreach management

  • R&D resource management

The goal is to help drive Amgen’s research portfolio forward through effective strategy, execution, and innovation.


Key Responsibilities

As an intern in PSET, you will work collaboratively across multiple teams such as R&D, the Chief Medical Office, Finance, and Digital Technology & Innovation. Your role may include one or more of the following focus areas:

1. Research Portfolio Management

  • Support portfolio operations, project management, and data tracking.

  • Contribute to governance, process improvement, and AI integration initiatives.

  • Collaborate across departments to enhance portfolio execution efficiency.

2. Research Collaborations & Scientific Outreach

  • Assist in managing research collaborations and alliances.

  • Support the execution of Corporate Scientific Advisory Boards (SABs).

  • Contribute to Amgen’s external outreach committee activities.

3. R&D Resource Management

  • Assist in tracking resource supply and demand across R&D.

  • Support business case evaluations through data analysis and reporting.

Additional Opportunities

  • Engage in learning activities and networking across Amgen.

  • Participate in Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).

  • Present your deliverables and findings to executive management at the end of the program.


Basic Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).

  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate study before internship start.

  • Must remain enrolled full-time following the internship.

  • Must not be employed at the time the internship begins.

  • Must be located in the United States during the internship period.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Management Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, Communications, Psychology, Human Resources, Information Science, or a related field.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn.

  • Ability to manage ambiguity and shifting priorities effectively.

  • Familiarity with project management concepts (preferred).
